Shantal Taliesha Memorial Award
This award has been established by the friends and family of Shantal Taliesha Myers in honour of her ambitious, fierce and courageous spirit.
A champion for social justice, a fashion queen, a fierce and loving presence, Shantal walked the earth with magnificent posture, purpose in her heart and a bounce in her step. In April 2019, just before her 26th birthday, Shantal passed away suddenly and unexpectedly from an undiagnosed heart condition.
Shantal had an unspoken power about her. She strove to be a voice for those who were in need. She had no patience for ignorance or hate, and was never afraid to stand up for what was right. Shantal was driven to make the world a better place for the vulnerable and marginalized, including everyone from fellow women and immigrants, to the LGBTQ+ community and children across the globe.
Shantal was also devoted to the arts, culture, and fashion with dreams of an ethical fashion empire fueling her daily life.
Shantal could be found at art museums, connecting with her spirituality, practicing self-care, or lifting the spirits of her friends, family and boyfriend with her intoxicating positive energy and glowing smile. She was a source of comfort, knowledge and advice and an unwavering moral guide for anyone privileged enough to have her in their lives.
Shantal graduated from the PR program at Conestoga College with a mission to change the world in a meaningful way. In her memory and honour, we present this bursary to a PR student who can demonstrate the drive and vision to forge their own legacy.
