Donna Squire International Nursing Student Bursary
Donna graduated from Fanshawe College in 1987 with a Nursing Diploma and continued her education at Brock University and graduated with Bachelor of Education in Adult Education with distinction. She started her nursing career working at St. Joseph Health Science Surgical Unit (1987-1996), and VON, Clinical Resource Nurse (1991-2002), but once she came to Cambridge Memorial Hospital in 2003, she found her second home and never left.
Those of us that have been fortunate to work with Donna know that is she is a caring, compassionate and dedicated nurse. There are so many facets to Donna that it’s hard to know where to begin, she has touched so many people, she touches them to the core with her big heart and dynamic personality. Donna had the intellectual capacity to do anything and she chose nursing. I know her patients are forever grateful she chose nursing because her caring hands have truly blessed each and every patient she has touched.
She is passionate about education and has always demonstrated academic excellence. In 1996, Donna won the Chairman’s Award for developing and teaching the Home IV Therapy Continuing Education course. She is driven to share her knowledge which is why she chose to teach at Conestoga College. She has been teaching at Conestoga College in the Nursing Program between 1994 and 1999 and returned in 2011. Her passion for teaching International students is infectious, she has a special energy and spirit when it comes to teaching her students. She is a true champion for inspiring them to embrace the values of nursing and I am positive that each and every student says they have a part of her in them. Donna is known as a strict, no nonsense practical instructor and refuses to compromise when it comes to best practice and patient safety. She has always been a reflective practitioner and continually encourages her students to engage in reflective practice. She wants the students to understand that reflection deepens their learning and enables them to make sense of what they learned. Donna is a phenomenal mentor and cares very deeply for her nursing students and strongly believes in the future success of each and every student.
Donna is loved by her Conestoga College and CMH colleagues, students, friends and family. The goal of the scholarship fund is to honour her legacy, including her drive, determination and all her extraordinary qualities.
