Incentives for Employers and Apprentices
We are approaching the end of another school year and many graduates will be looking for full-time positions and summer employment, co-op placements, and apprenticeship opportunities. There are many incentives, grants and tax credits available, here are just a few:
Employer Incentives
- Ontario Apprenticeship Training Tax Credit (OATTC)
- Up to $5,000 per year per eligible apprentice to a maximum of $15,000 over the first 36 months
- Federal Apprenticeship Job Creation Tax Credit
- 10% of the eligible salaries and wages for eligible apprentices, up to $2,000
- Apprenticeship Employer Signing Bonus
- A $2,000 Apprenticeship Employer Signing Bonus (AESB) is available to ES employers who hire, register and train an apprentice (EOES participant) as part of their participation in ES Job matching, Placement and Incentives
- Co-operative Education Tax Credit
- A maximum tax credit of $3,000 is available per student per four month qualifying work placement
- Employer Completion Grant
- A $1,000 taxable grant to employers for every apprentice in their employ who completes an apprenticeship training program and is issued a Certificate of Apprenticeship (C of A) and, where applicable a Certificate of Qualification
Apprentice Incentives
- Apprenticeship Scholarship
- The Apprenticeship Scholarship provides $1,000 to support individuals who require upgrading to meet the academic eligibility requirements for apprenticeship training in their chosen trade
- Apprenticeship Incentive Grant
- $1000 per year, available to registered apprentices once they have successfully completed their first or second year or level of an apprenticeship program in one of the Red Seal trades
- Apprenticeship Completion Grant (ACG)
- $2,000 taxable cash grant designed to encourage apprentices registered in a designated Red Seal trade to complete their apprenticeship program and receive their certification
- Canada Apprenticeship Loan
- Up to $4,000 in loans per period of technical training;
- Up to five funded periods of technical training; and,
- Up to six years of interest-free status
- Non-Red Seal Apprenticeship Incentive
- $2,000 for the completion of an apprenticeship program in Ontario in a trade that is designated as a non-Red Seal
- Loans for Tools
- Offers new apprentices a loan to help them buy the tools and equipment they need to perform the trade in which they are register
- Trades-person Tool Deduction
- Provides employed trades-persons with an annual deduction of up to $500 to help cover the cost of new tools necessary to their trade
- Incentive for non E.I. Apprentices
- For apprentices that have completed a level of full-time apprenticeship in-school training at an approved MTCU Training Delivery Agent without being eligible for Employment Insurance benefits Please visit our website for a complete list and further details. New Apprentice Portal
Conestoga has developed a portal designed to offer step-by-step instructions for apprentices with an offer of classroom training to register and attend trade school. Information such as orientation, parking, textbooks and college services are available to review.

Chairs' Cup Golf Tournament
Please join us at Ariss Valley Golf and Country Club for a great day of golf, networking, food and prizes. This tournament is open to all Conestoga College faculty, support staff, PAC members, employers, suppliers and others involved with Conestoga's trades and apprenticeship programs. Date: June 19, 2015 Times: Registration and Lunch: 10:45 AM Tee-Off: 11:45 AM (Shotgun start) Dinner: 5:00 PM Location: Ariss Valley Golf and Country Club 5700 Wellington Road 86 Ariss, ON To Register: Register online and secure your place in the tournament with a $110 fee.

Annual Trades & Apprenticeship Awards Presentation and BBQ
Our 6th annual Awards ceremony will be held at the Waterloo Campus' Conestoga - OIRCA Training Centre on May 27th. Over 150 awards in the Motive Power, Industrial and Construction sectors will be presented valued at approximately $130,000! We want to thank the donors who contribute to the success of our students!
