Lithium Iron Phosphate (12.8V LiFePO4) batteries initially found their way into powersport and motorsport through battery manufacturers / assemblers that from the get go focused their key marketing on the hype of more cranking power for less weight. A couple more creative ‘facts’ were thrown in to make this new technology sound ‘fantastic’, all with the intention of softening the financial blow when buying a lithium battery, including: lithium loses no charge when stored and if it ever needs charging, simply use any old battery charger. Many even prophesied this lithium technology will ‘very soon’ be the replacement for lead-acid. Are lithium starter batteries that fantastic or is this technology being grossly oversold, as a growing group of disappointed vehicle owners that tried lithium might like to attest? Or was their unwillingness to learn how much it differs from lead-acid the reason for their bad experience? Or maybe it’s a case of no one really knew, even those battery ‘manufacturers’? Lithium can be as reliable as lead-acid if you treat it right. Come learn how and why.

The asphalt industry of Ontario supports the province’s $37 billion construction industry. Ontario’s asphalt producers and contractors employ approximately 30,000 workers during peak construction season, which is March through October. During this period, an estimated $8.1 billion in total employment income is created by the asphalt industry. In addition to gaining a general understanding of our industry, our presentation will provide some insight in to the world of asphalt technology – what make this construction material so interesting and why is asphalt used on over 95 % of the roads in Ontario. The presentation will include hot mix asphalt best practices for production, laydown (placement) and compaction required to meet specifications and to produce long lasting roads. Formed in 1974, the Ontario Hot Mix Producers Association serves as the voice for hot mix asphalt producers on all subjects affecting our industry or our members’ businesses. OHMPA members include all major asphalt producers and asphalt cement suppliers across the province as well as a solid core of supportive manufacturer/supplier and professional services members. Producer members represent over 95 percent of all the hot mix asphalt (HMA) producers in the province of Ontario.

This session will discuss the various misconceptions of wheel alignment and how vehicle handling and tire wear are affected. Some of the topics we will tackle include: Why 4 Wheel Alignment? Why does the manufacturer allow Wheel Alignment adjustments and why is an Alignment required? Why does the customer bring the vehicle in for an Alignment and do they really want/need an Alignment? What are the customer's perceptions of a Wheel Alignment? What the most common customer complaint after a Wheel Alignment is and ways to avoid it. Additionally, we will take a look at inspection of a vehicle and how to communicate with the customer, the word "need" and its perceived meanings, how "forensic evidence" can help (explaining tire wear patterns), common Wheel Alignment angles, diagnostic angles and how each affects tire wear and handling, the effect of angles on the vehicle, why some vehicles get more "Caster" then others, Steering Linkage placement on the vehicle and why it is where it is, diagnosing with Wheel Alignment angles and what these angles do, and finally post alignment procedures on modern cars.

We live in an age where we have access to instant real-time information thanks to like of Google, Wikipedia, IMBD and more. Where we know when our clothes dryer has stopped, what the temperature of our refrigerator is, whether the furnace/air conditioning is working and even turning house lights on remotely. Think about what all this technology means for the way we own, operate and repair our vehicles. We are quickly working towards mainstream autonomous vehicles; already in mainstream production are things like adaptive cruise control, lane departure and even automatic breaking. In the meantime we have some really significant tools in our tool boxes for not just operating our vehicles but repairing and servicing those vehicles in the commercial application. We will explore just some of the tools that can make how we not only operate but how we service and repair our vehicles. How have we been communicating with our vehicles? How are our vehicles communicating now? What are our vehicles saying? What are and can we do with the information that our vehicles are telling us? Let’s connect and see how our Connected Vehicles work in our Connected Lives.
