Saturday 27 January
9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
The opportunity to play freely in and with nature is vital to children's healthy development and supports their learning in wondrous ways. This session will focus on ways educators can engage children in the outdoors and across seasons using the best classroom - the one without a roof. Educators will be encouraged to go beyond the fence to nature's playground to recognize opportunities and extend inquiry learning. Through hands on explorations with nature's loose parts and opportunities to document learning, they will engage in discussion and reflection. Educators will discuss ways of bringing the outdoors in as a common practice to connect with nature but not be seen as a substitute for outdoor play and learning. Final reflections will include a deeper understanding of nature pedagogy and how the early learning community can build future nature connections for children and their families.
