In this two-part series, participants will be encouraged to thoughtfully examine traditional mindsets about danger and safety, debunk long held assumptions about risky play, and reflect on their personal comfort with co-constructing play experiences that involve risk-taking. Through the use of action research, participants will be empowered to build on children's competence and capabilities by transforming environments and updating practices into ones that embrace risky play as a source of meaningful learning.

Through this workshop, participants will explore STEAM language and terminology and will be invited to connect those expressions to the play that occurs daily within their programs. Through dialogue and hands-on exploration, participants will be invited to foster a culture where STEAM language is modeled in every day interactions and experiences. Through the use of reflective practice, participants will develop new and innovative ways to express their practice through a lens of STEAM education.

Everyone learns by playing, so let's play! The PRC Play Labs will encourage participants to take an active role in learning about science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM). Through innovative experiential learning, participants will hear from experts in the field, engage in hands-on playful exploration and experimentation of materials and concepts, and participate in in-depth reflection of practice. This will take participants on a journey of transformation through experience that will empower them to support children in becoming the innovators, leaders, and learners of the 21st century.

Experiences and relationships in the early years influence how the brain is 'wired' and will establish the foundation for all future learning, physical and mental health, and behaviors. IN this workshop participants will learn how authentic, responsive and positive relationships with educators and caregivers contribute to their development of healthy brain connections. They will also reflect on their partnership with the families in their programs and will explore strategies to facilitate the transition of brain development information through this partnership. This workshop will be facilitated by Dana Bernhardt, a Community Connector from the YMCA of Cambridge and Kitchener-Waterloo's First 2000 Days Strategy.

All children and families, regardless of their cultural background, should grow and learn in environments that are culturally responsive. In this workshop, participants will examine how to authentically celebrate cultural diversity through their curriculum and engage in cultural responsiveness in order to create a climate of belonging in their programs. They will also dig deeper on understanding the meaning of diversity, reflect on how the cultural knowledge, skills and talents that they bring to their practices influence their interactions with children and families, and learn about ways to implement authentic inclusive practices in their programs.
